Fatigue Related Shifter Concern.

I admit I was tired. MAYBE I was just confused, could have had the gear in R thinking it was D, but I looked down to check...

I had just finished filling up the gas at a gas station and I was set to drive off (forward). Selected D, released the brake, not sure if I stepped on the gas but I felt like the car was lurching backwards! I slammed the brake, look down at the D button and it is properly highlighted. Proceeded to notice this issue once or twice more! (It didn't help that someone was at the pump behind me).

I was very scared to say the least. (Maybe just fatigue)?

It's been maybe a week or two since the incident but thought I'd see if anyone might have had the same?

Thanks in advance.

Wow, that is weird. I haven't had anything like that. Closest was when I tried to use brake hold while in R on a steep driveway. Apparently, brake hold only works in D, or perhaps it will work by not letting the car roll forward if you are facing down hill?

But a gas station would be pretty level ground, so I don't see how that could happen if the gear was in D.

Re: Fatigue Related Shifter Concern.

This was a pretty big gas station that I don't go to often/at all, think three rows of gas pumps, and I just so happen to be at the 1st pump in the front. Yes under the makeshift roofing the surface is really flat, at least at this station, but typically you move forward past the pump because the filler is in the back and the front tires just reached beyond the really flat part. I was really tired so it could have been human error definitely. My heart was racing though as I was trying to sort it out.
Someone was behind me at the middle pump and definitely didn't want so back up into them, nor make them angry at me for scaring them doing so. Hasn't happened again but I better stop driving tired from now on....

Facing Reasonably Steep Uphill Confirms.

I was on an uphill slope stopped at a stoplight. Sure enough as soon as I lifted off the brake the car started rolling backwards/(down) quite rapidly. (HOLD was not engaged). This was in EV mode, (EV lit on the instrument cluster).

Re: Shifter Concern.

Having gotten a lot of driving in on the Clarity, I eventually realize that sometimes, (even when the HOLD function is off), the vehicle will creep forward after a complete stop. And other times, it will act as in N and roll backwards with the slope. (I think it depends on how firmly I press the brake pedal but have not confirmed).

I did happen to drop by the exact same gas station I initially reported the issue at. It has been rainy here in Southern California and I took a picture of the culprit!

I must have just so happen to have the front tires on the upward slope of that rain/water channel....
