2 months into ownership of the Clarity PHEV. Great car, excellent range.....more comfortable than my Volt.
Some early comparisons to my Chevy Volt (have owned 3 Volts over the past 8 years) that take the form of suggested improvements:
1. Door to Charge Port - no access to charger door other than via key fob or inside the car - a minor issue but can be a bit annoying to go the extra step - Volt has a "press and release" door that opens from the outside - it can't see any security reason why the Clarity has to lock the access door
2. Charge Status - the Volt has a blinking dashboard light that indicates if the car is charging and how far along the charging process it has come - this is done via blinking lights (3 fast flashes means between 1/2 and 3/4 charged; while 4 fast flashes means between 3/4 and 100%, etc.... Also, merely opening the door of the Volt activiates the dashboard which displays the availalbe battery range (you do not need the key fob, just open the door).
3. Trunk Pass-through: When folding down the rear seats, the available pass-through circumference seems inconveniently narrow - there must be an engineering/structural reason for this (the Volt, a hatchback, has full access to the trunk area with complete uniformity over the folded rear seats).
4. Knobs! - at some point tech convenience becomes counterproductive. Looking down at a touch screen for everything might be a bit too much. Yes, its a personal preference, but the blind reach for a volume knob while keeping an eye on the road seems safer than punching a screen......and, yes, the steering wheel controls eliminate much of that concern, so let's see how that goes after another couple of months.
More to come....
