110v and precondition my cabin

Sat May 12, 2018 4:23 pm

Why is there a silly restriction of preventing remote conditioning of the cabin if it is plugged into a 110v charger?

Seems like an unfixed programming bug.

I have to bundle up and go out to my garage, unplug the charger, go back inside and then I can remote start.

I love my Clarity!

Hi, I am sure they did this since the heater can probably draw 7kW (based on our Bolt) and the 110v can only supply about 1.5kW. Preconditioning for 20 minutes would cost you almost 5 miles of range. It would be nice if they gave us the option to just use up the range to be warm. I really miss the heated steering wheel in my wife's Bolt. I also wish they had put in the heater from the Clarity EV, I understand it uses a heat pump system rather than resister elements. I hear they use 60% less power. Other than that I really like the Clarity.

240v level 2 evse will let you precondition while plugged in and support full battery state of charge so you start off with full battery even after preconditioning. The 110v cord simply cannot support the electrical draw of the heater, it's not a programming issue it's simply science and limitation of the 110v cordset.
